Dennis Still receives Georgia Municipal Association's 'Lifetime Service Award'
Former Dacula City Attorney and Lawrenceville Municipal Court Chief Judge Dennis Still has received the Lifetime Service Award from the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) in recognition of his four decades of service in local government. The award was presented at Dacula’s Oct. 6 city council meeting.
Still joined the city of Dacula as city attorney in 1979, and remained in the post through 2019. In 1981, he became the chief judge of the Municipal Court of the City of Lawrenceville, and he stayed in that post through 2020.
“Mr. Still served the city faithfully for over 40 years,” said Acting Dacula City Administrator Heather Coggins. “His expert navigation of municipal legal issues proved to be invaluable. Mr. Still’s contributions have left the city of Dacula in a position poised to face the challenges of the future.”
In both Dacula and Lawrenceville, Still has been an active member of the civic and legal communities. On top of his heavy municipal workload, Still also worked as an attorney for the firm Garner and Still, LLC; has served as a trustee of the Gwinnett County Law Library and president of the Gwinnett County Bar Association; and has been a member of the Lawyers Club of Atlanta and State Bar of Georgia. Still also served as the president of GMA’s City Attorney’s Section from 2010-2012, giving him a seat on the association’s board of trustees.
Over his career, Still has served as master of the Lawrenceville Masonic Lodge and has been an active member of organizations including the Rotary Club and Hospital Authority of Gwinnett. He has also served as an elder in his church.
“Still has demonstrated his dedication to municipal government through his many years of generous service to its citizens,” said GMA Executive Director Larry Hanson. “Dacula and Lawrenceville are fortunate to have had that kind of dedicated leadership, and GMA and Georgia’s cities are also grateful to have seen the example he set for all city leaders.”
