McMillan Road Stormwater Project Complete
Dacula Infrastructure Improvements Completed Utilizing ARPA Funding
Stormwater improvements were recently completed on a portion of McMillan Road in Dacula thanks to funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
A section of McMillan Road between Winder Highway and Stanley Road/Church Street experienced a history of routine flooding during heavy rains requiring a portion of the road to be periodically closed. The flooding impacted commuters, along with businesses and residents in the area.
The bid for the McMillan Stormwater Project was awarded to Lawrenceville-based Zaveri Enterprises, Inc. at $506,000. To alleviate flooding, sections of the existing storm sewer system were removed, and a new system was installed along McMillan Road extending westward to the adjacent stream. A new reinforced concrete pipe culvert and junction box were installed, and the road was regraded. The project also included the installation of curb and gutter and repaving of the road.
This stormwater and flood mitigation project spanned several months and is the latest project completed utilizing ARPA funds. Additional ARPA funded projects include connecting Dacula City Hall to sewer and installing publicly accessible broadband. Maple Creek Park visitors can now enjoy free access to broadband and broadband is now accessible at the city’s maintenance facility. Utilizing ARPA funding, the city worked in conjunction with AT&T to provide broadband access to both areas.
The American Rescue Plan Act was signed by President Biden in March 2021. Investing in stormwater, sewer and broadband are just three of the ways cities may use the funding to benefit their communities. Click here for more on the American Rescue Plan Act.
