Improvements Planned for McMillan Road in Dacula
McMillan Road in Dacula will soon receive much needed stormwater improvements. The upcoming project will alleviate flooding along with providing other improvements.
A section of the McMillan Road currently floods during rain events, requiring regular road closures between Winder Highway and Stanley Road/Church Street. The project will include demolishing sections of the existing storm sewer system. A new system will be installed along McMillan Road and extend westward along the adjacent stream. Existing storm pipe crossing under McMillan Road will be replaced with new reinforced concrete pipe culvert and junction box. Additional improvements will include regrading the road between Winder Highway and Stanley/Church Road, installing curb and gutter and repaving.
The city received five bids for the project. The bid was awarded to Lawrenceville based, Zaveri Enterprises, Inc. at $506,000. Funding for the project is being provided by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) federal funds.
“Flooding on McMillan Road during heavy rains has caused frequent road closures creating inconveniences for both residents and commuters,” said Mayor Trey King. “This is an extensive project that will span several months and we’re grateful for the ARPA funding that is allowing the city to move forward with the project at this time.”
Due to the scope of the project, sections of McMillan Road will be closed periodically. Updates will be provided on the city’s website. The project is expected to be completed in early 2023.
