Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks, age 76, of Dacula, GA passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents; Bill and Blanche Wilbanks. A cousin, Ernie Cain, as well as his family at the City of Dacula survive him.

Mayor Wilbanks was born and raised in Dacula where he was a graduate of the Gwinnett County Public Schools and the University of Georgia. He was an active member at Hebron Baptist Church where he served as a lay leader.

Jimmy was first elected as Mayor of Dacula in 1971 where he served 2 terms for a total of 8 years. He ran again for Mayor and was re-elected in 2002. Mayor Wilbanks was currently serving his third consecutive term. Jimmy served the people of Dacula as an elected official for 17 years.

Mayor Wilbanks was involved in the GMA Legislative Policy Committee and was President of the Gwinnett Municipal Association in 2007. Jimmy retired from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency Disaster Relief after 20+ years of service.

A funeral service honoring the life of Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 12:00 pm at Hebron Baptist Church, 202 Hebron Church Road, Dacula, Georgia, with Rev. Larry Wynn officiating. Interment will follow in Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 4:00 pm-8 pm at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
